Work Break, PCB Style

Greetings, Work Life Friends! This post is about taking a much-needed work break, and I hope it will inspire you to take a little time off, and do something that you enjoy. I personally love to try new restaurants, so this post is all about the food - seafood, that is!

In 2016, I took a work break, Havana Style. This year, I visited Panama City Beach. Full-time working while part-time schooling doesn’t afford me lengthy vacations, so I try to take mini-trips, and day-cations, whenever possible.  PCB is known as a spring break destination, and it certainly is touristy, even in the off-season. That being said, there’s certainly not a lack of things to do, or places to eat. We hit up the following four places, and we’re so glad we did!

First up, Hunt’s Oyster Bar, located in historic St. Andrews. Famous for its Apalachicola oysters, Hunt’s did not disappoint. A cute little “hole-in-the-wall", and super friendly staff. Walking around St. Andrews after lunch was a nice bonus (pics below).

Next up, Runaway Island This was our second visit to Runaway Island, and we absolutely loved it. A bit more of a high-end place, but still casual and relaxed. It boasts a nice wine selection, and a lovely gift shop. We sat across from the bar, with a beautiful ocean view. Once again, great service.

Then, Schooners Oh, now, this is a fun hangout! Right on the beach, the view is exceptional. It’s a lively, bustling beach shack, with easy access from the ocean, or the volleyball net. Rinse off your feet at the back-deck hose, and come on in! Don’t forget your flip-flops!

Lastly, Pelican's By the time we made it to Pelican’s we were ready for some lighter fare. Salads all around. But, I hear the Mahi tacos are great, so next time, I’ll have to try them! Pelican’s boasts amazing bay-front views, and the service was fast and friendly.

Popcorn lunch platter. Very good,

We ordered them steamed. Very good!

Cute little Hunt's!

St. Andrews Marina,

Which way do I go? Toward the shrimp, of course!

We did not eat here, but we saw their boats at the marina. It is highly recommended,

Fun in all directions,

Just the Cook at St. Andrews. Didn't eat here either, but also highly recommended.

Fresh seafood, everywhere,

Shops at St. Andrews,

Runaway Island. Perfect view, perfect margarita. Not too sweet,

Fish tacos, and a side.

Our top pick. Nice place,

A must-see, in PCB,

Yummy Schooners Redfish Platter,

Walk to your table, or catch a golf cart ride!

Pelican's peace and quiet,

Our table view,

Reasonably priced, generous portions,

Will do, St. Andrews!

Artificial reefs can be both positive and negative. Sometimes, for a variety of reasons, the desired outcome does not come to fruition. At times, the deployed reef is composed of materials that are harmful to marine life. Conservation efforts to protect natural reefs must always continue. But, the staff at the Reef Ball Foundation seem to be on the right track.
Also, shout-out to Southern Seafood for not using nets, and for providing their region with locally-caught fish.

    1. Hi Lindsey, yes, it’s a quintessential beach shack, with a view that rivals more exotic locations, in my opinion. Glad your bro liked it!! have a great day!!!
